| 1936 | Due to competition by Squire’s Gate, the Stanley Park aerodrome closed down, making Squire’s Gate the only airport for Blackpool.

| 1939 | The Air Force developed three runways, ammunition storage and more hangars at Squire’s Gate.

| 1941-1945 | Squire’s Gate was used by a local aircraft factory to test its military aircraft. |
| 1949 | Interest in passenger service increased since civil aviation authorities has taken over the airport and made extensive renovations.

| 1962 | Control of the airport was given to Blackpool Corporation. This was accompanied by a name change for the airport.

| 1987 | It became a Private Limited Company. |
| 1995 | A new terminal building replaced the old wooden terminal. The new terminal was a two million pound complex.
